The Bruins are already set to be everywhere at Milano Cortina, with NHL regulars lining up for their countries. Latvia is one of the nations still to finalize its full group, and that's where Locmelis comes in.

Locmelis has quietly become a fixture for Latvia, and he already helped punch the ticket. In the September 2024 Olympic qualifier, he put up one goal and one assist in three games as Latvia secured its Olympic spot.

He followed that up with a strong 2025 Men's Worlds, posting six points in seven games for Latvia, four goals and two assists. The Bruins' own tournament recap and QuantHockey match those totals, which says plenty about his impact.

Dans Locmelis drives Team Latvia Olympic bid

If you've watched him lately, you can see why Latvia trusts him in big moments.

He's also earning it the hard way in Providence, where he's producing against grown pros. HockeyDB has him at 12 goals and 21 points through 30 AHL games this season, and the team page lines up exactly.

That scoring didn't appear out of nowhere, either, because he was a point machine at UMass right before turning pro. He had 33 points in 40 games in 2024-25, and both USCHO and HockeyDB back that stat cleanly.

The Bruins drafted him in the fourth round, 119th overall, in 2022, and the profile still fits the pick.

He's a center who can slide to the wing, win a puck battle, then make a quick play off the wall.

Tactically, that versatility matters in best-on-best tournaments where matchups flip fast.

Latvia needs forwards who can manage the puck through the neutral zone, then defend right away when it comes back at them.

Nothing is official until Latvia posts the roster, but Locmelis has built the kind of résumé coaches hate to leave at home.

For Bruins fans, the next milestone is simple, watch for the Olympic list, then see how close he is to Boston.
