It looks like the Bruins may be without one of their top players for a while after a recent announcement.

Boston ended up losing their top-line center, Elias Lindholm, to what could be a long-term injury.

On Thursday night, Lindholm left the game against the Buffalo Sabres with an injury and did not return.

Originally, he was diagnosed with a lower-body injury, but head coach Marco Sturm recently revealed some awful news.

Lindholm could be out long-term

Sturm stated that Lindholm is expected to be out week-to-week, meaning he could miss up to three to four weeks, or a couple of months, or even more.

It was confirmed that Lindholm would be going for an MRI to see what the extent of the injury is.

Coach Sturm's update on Elias Lindholm (lower-body): “He's having an MRI today. He's gonna be out for at least a few weeks.”

Here's a look at the play leading to the injury:

E. Lindholm and Greenway collide, looks like they clanged knees. Lindholm helped off, hopefully just a dead leg but doesn't look great.

Looking at the video, it looks really bad, and it's caused speculation that he could be out long-term.

According to Heavy.com, sports physician Dr. Harjas Grewal spoke on the injury and estimated that Lindholm could be out for about four to six weeks.

Of course, Grewal's opinion comes solely from the video. But judging from Grewal's expert opinion, the injury might not be as bad as it looked on the ice. Then again, anything is possible. So, the situation could be worse depending on what the MRI reveals.

Everyone is hopeful that Lindholm won't be out too long, especially considering how good he has been for the Bruins to start the year.
