After spending his entire career with the Bruins, last season Brad Marchand ended up being traded to the Florida Panthers, and now he has shed some new details on why he wanted out of Boston.

The Bruins underwent some big changes last season at the NHL trade deadline, and one of the biggest ones was probably Brad Marchand being traded to the Florida Panthers.

Ultimately this trade would be the best thing that Marchand could do, as he ended up helping the Florida Panthers become back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, and won his second Stanley Cup as well.

Marchand played a massive role with the Panthers in the playoffs, scoring 10 goals (five game winners), 10 assists for 20 points in 23 games.

Now, after training camp officially began yesterday, Brad Marchand confirmed the real reason that he wanted out of Boston.

Brad Marchand didn't want a short-term contract

Last year, there were talks that the Boston Bruins and Brad .Marchand were ready to agree on a three year contract

Marchand ended up shutting this rumor down, and now he has stated that this is the reason him and the Bruins could not work out a deal:

Brad Marchand said he was never planning to take a 1, 2 or 3 year deal.

"I want to play as I long as I can. That's the main reason it didn't work in Boston. .... I'm thrilled to be here for the next 6 years."

It's unfortunate, but at the end of the day, the NHL is a business, and the Bruins weren't willing to offer Marchand what he wanted.
