Lucic is officially continuing his playing career, signing not with an NHL club, but with the Fife Flyers of the EIHL, the top professional league in the United Kingdom.

The announcement surprised plenty of fans, especially given Lucic's long association with the Bruins and the NHL, but it represents a new chapter for the veteran power forward.

The Fife Flyers, based in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, are the oldest professional hockey team in the U.K., founded back in 1938, making this a historic landing spot for a player of Lucic's stature.

At 37 years old, Lucic has been searching for the right opportunity to return to game action.

Earlier this season, he appeared in five games with the Springfield Thunderbirds, the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, on a professional tryout. In that short stint, he recorded one assist and four penalty minutes.

Lucic did not play at all last season after a difficult and complicated year.

His last NHL action came during the 2023-24 season with the Boston Bruins, when he played four games and recorded two assists before landing on long term injured reserve after taking a puck to the ankle.

While sidelined, Lucic was placed on an indefinite leave of absence following a domestic incident in November of 2023. Although charges were ultimately dropped, his season effectively ended there.

Milan Lucic legacy remains strong in Boston

For Bruins fans, Lucic will always be remembered for what he meant at his peak.

Drafted by Boston in the second round of the 2006 NHL Draft, Lucic spent his first nine NHL seasons wearing black and gold.

He was a core piece of the Bruins' 2011 Stanley Cup championship team, embodying the team's identity with his size, toughness, and timely scoring.

His best season came in 2010-11, when he scored 30 goals and added 32 assists for 62 points in 79 games.

Lucic later played for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames before returning to Boston to close out his 17 year NHL career.

For Lucic, it is about playing the game again.
