Morgan Geekie’s Team Canada Olympics hope died Thursday, and Boston Bruins fans felt the gut drop right along with him.

Team Canada made it clear it would not carry an extra injury standby to Milan, so a final call had to come fast.

That deadline turned into a hard roster choice.

Point is officially out, and Team Canada filled the spot with Seth Jarvis, not Geekie.

For Geekie, it’s a brutal personal swing after a season that finally turned into a true breakout.

He’s sitting at 32-22-54 for Boston, the kind of line that usually earns a reward somewhere along the way.

Geekie is 27, drafted in 2017 in the third round by the Carolina Hurricanes, and he has clawed his way into being a real difference-maker.

But Team Canada did what it usually does; it leaned toward a more established international fit.

Jarvis is 24, drafted in 2020 in the first round, 13th overall by Carolina, and he brings speed plus a nasty little finishing touch.

This season he’s at 25-18-43, and coaches trust that kind of pace in short tournaments.

Morgan Geekie left out of Team Canada's roster

After having a breakout year, it felt like Geekie had a chance at cracking Team Canada's roster, but that's not the case.

Jarvis was on the roster for Canada during the Four Nations tournament but wasn't the most impressive.

It will be interesting to see if he can make an impact on the biggest stage for hockey.

Canada might regret the choice of not bringing a pure goal scorer like Morgan Geekie, but only time will tell.
