Jeremy Swayman was officially announced to Team USA's Olympic roster and has now spoken out on the new opportunity that he is going to get.
On Wednesday, before the Bruins practice, Swayman was standing in the hallway doing some stretches when his phone rang.
Team USA general manager Bill Guerin was on the other end, calling to congratulate him for earning a spot on the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Games roster. For a goalie, that kind of call is the career stamp you chase quietly for years.
“I was really hoping to be a part of it,” Swayman said. “But you get caught by surprise, and when the phone call finally comes, it becomes reality. It's an incredible moment that I'll never forget.”
Jeremy Swayman speaks on his new opportunity
As a Bruins fan, I love that he sounded genuinely stunned, not rehearsed, because you can hear how much it means.
This opportunity also hits harder because last season was not always smooth for him. When the noise gets loud around a goaltender, the only response that matters is showing up again, and he clearly did enough to win trust back.
Swayman will head to Italy with Charlie McAvoy, giving Boston two centerpieces on the American roster. Those two already shared the experience of the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, so this won't feel like strangers meeting in a new room.
From the Bruins' perspective, it's also a reminder that the team still has legitimate top-end talent. A goalie doesn't get picked for best-on-best because of vibes, he gets picked because decision-makers believe he can steal a game.
Swayman's quote about the call becoming reality is the part that sticks. Every player says they dream about the Olympics, but most never get the actual phone ring that confirms it.
Now comes the balancing act Boston fans know too well. You want him to soak up every second of this honor, and you also want him to stay sharp and healthy through the grind that gets him there.
Do you think there is a chance Jeremy Swayman can be the starting goaltender for Team USA?
