Boston Bruins may turn to Joonas Korpisalo versus the Pittsburgh Penguins today.
After Jeremy Swayman's start in Saturday's 10-2 blowout against the New York Rangers, the early read is Boston will flip the crease again. Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont reported Korpisalo is expected in net.
It would fit the pattern, because Marco Sturm has been riding the hot hand and then circling back to manage workload. Swayman made 27 saves in that Rangers win, and Boston's offense did the rest.
Korpisalo also earned another look with how he played Thursday against the Calgary Flames. He stopped 28 shots in a 4-1 win, earning his first win since Dec. 11 and snapping a tough stretch.
That's why today matters, because Boston isn't just choosing a starter, it's choosing whether it trusts a true rotation. If Korpisalo gives them another calm game, it becomes easier to stop overworking Swayman.
Boston to make a goaltender move vs the Penguins
As a Bruins fan, I'm rooting for the boring Korpisalo, the one who swallows rebounds and kills momentum.
Dupont also noted Boston is skipping a morning skate, which usually means fewer public lineup clues until Sturm's pregame media chat. That's also when we should learn whether Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie can play.
Korpisalo's path is pretty simple against Pittsburgh, be sharp on the first shot and stay clean around the posts. The Bruins have been at their best when their goalie doesn't hand out early freebies.
This is still a prove-it moment, though, because one strong start doesn't erase a choppy season. Korpisalo needs to stack another steady performance to truly gain the staff's trust.
Boston already banked points this week, but the next step is stringing wins together. If Korpisalo delivers again, the Bruins don't just get two points, they get breathing room in their goalie plan.
Do you want the Boston Bruins to keep rotating starts between Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo?
