Michael DiPietro recall chatter just hit the Boston Bruins, because the Winter Olympics have Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo out of town.

Boston needs a goalie on the ice for practice, even when the NHL schedule is paused. That’s where the Providence Bruins pipeline suddenly matters again.

Mark Divver reported DiPietro is expected in Boston for practice, along with a few Providence teammates.

Expect Michael DiPietro to be in Boston for Bruins practice tomorrow along with a few of his Providence Bruins teammates

Bruins scheduled to skate at 11 a.m. at Warrior

DiPietro is 26, drafted in 2017, third round, by the Vancouver Canucks, and he’s built his case the hard way.

It seems like the only reason he will be coming up is so the Bruins can host their practices.

Michael DiPietro to be recalled

DiPietro has been one of Providence’s most reliable pieces this season, and the league has noticed.

The AHL even named him Goaltender of the Month for January, which tells you his form hasn’t been a fluke.

In the future, there is a good chance that DiPietro gets a shot with the Bruins due to the season he is currently having.

The interesting wrinkle is the bigger picture, because DiPietro has been on the “don’t lose him for nothing” radar before. Sweeney already made that mistake with Bussi.

Boston has been rumored to be looking at trading Joonas Korpisalo this season, and if this is the case, DiPietro would likely be the next man up.

It will be interesting to see what Sweeney decides to do at the deadline, and who actually gets moved.
