Today, the Boston Bruins made a massive announcement regarding their American Hockey League affiliate the Providence Bruins.

Unfortunately for the Boston Bruins, their season came to an end super early this year, after making the postseason for the past 8 straight years, they officially missed it this year for the first time.

Everyone saw it coming after what General Manager Don Sweeney ended up pulling off during the NHL trade deadline.

He ended up trading some massive named players on the Boston Bruins roster, who all played big roles, but in return he got younger, more talented players along with picks to build their prospect pool.

Sweeney did end up trading players like Brad Marchand, Brandon Carlo, Charlie Coyle, Trent Frederic and others.

Everyone knew after the trade deadline came to an end that the Bruins were not going to be a playoff team this year. Losing all those players, and getting younger, inexperienced players in return, it was hard to imagine them actually making it.

Just because the Boston Bruins aren't in the playoffs, doesn't mean that Bruins fans won't have a team to cheer for if they wanted to watch some playoff hockey, because the Providence Bruins will be playing playoff hockey.

Boston Bruins make a huge announcement regarding the Providence Bruins

With the Boston Bruins being out, and the Providence Bruins being in, all the prospects that got a chance with the Bruins during the last couple of games got re sent down to the Providence Bruins and will join them during their playoff push.

Good luck in the postseason, @AHLBruins!

The Bruins have a good chance at winning the Calder Cup this year! Definitely an exciting time to be a Bruins fan despite them missing the playoffs this year, they have some talented prospects in their pool now.
