Joonas Korpisalo trade talk and Michael DiPietro momentum are squeezing the Boston Bruins' crease.
A new RG report says Boston has been checking the market again for Korpisalo, and the early answer is the same, no takers.
One source described the search as “trying hard to find a dance partner.”
The problem is money and structure, not just a bad week. Korpisalo carries a $4 million cap hit through 2027-28, and he's believed to have a 10-team no-trade list, which can stall conversations before they start.
On the ice, his season line depends on where you look, and that's part of the headache. Korpisalo currently sits with a 8-8-0 record, a 3.42 goals against average and a .894 save percentage.
That statistical split is less important than the usage, Boston still leans on Jeremy Swayman when it matters. The urgency comes from the other goalie in the pipeline, because DiPietro has been lights-out in Providence.
Joonas Korpisalo market, Michael DiPietro push
As a Bruins fan, I'm torn, because this feels like a business decision with real human weight.
DiPietro's current AHL numbers are strong enough to force the conversation. TheAHL.com lists him at 13-4 with a 1.81 GAA and .937 save percentage, and Elite Prospects shows a similar profile around 1.86 and .935.
RG's sources also put it bluntly, Korpisalo is “paid 1B money,” and Boston may need to “sweeten the pot” if it wants a clean trade. That's why “waive him” keeps popping up as the fallback plan.
Even the broader market is weird right now, with one scout telling RG, “I've never seen it this tight,” which matches the league-wide feel that too many teams still think they're alive.
If you're Boston, the goal is simple, keep banking points now, while creating a path to evaluate DiPietro without burning out Swayman. The next milestone is whether the Bruins choose patience, or pull the trigger on a hard move in net.
Should the Boston Bruins move Joonas Korpisalo to open room for Michael DiPietro?
