The Boston Bruins woke up to another blue line problem Saturday as Henri Jokiharju landed on injured reserve and an emergency recall brought Michael Callahan to the NHL.

Jokiharju, injured Friday against the New York Rangers, was officially moved to IR with a Nov. 28 designation. That means he will miss at least a week of action, though the Bruins have not offered a specific return window.

This is another tough blow for the Bruins, but Jokiharju has not been the best for the Bruins since arriving.

In response, Boston summoned Michael Callahan from Providence on an emergency basis.

Callahan, 26, has been one of Providence's most consistent defenders this season. He entered the weekend with 2 points in 12 AHL games and a plus-6 rating.

The Bruins already leaned heavily on their defense this month, especially as injuries forced different pairings and reduced options.

Henri Jokiharju loss tests Boston Bruins depth

Callahan's calm style might blend well with the Bruins' system, which values short passes and positional discipline over flash.

Here is the announcement from the morning skate:

For Callahan, he is getting another shot with the Bruins once again. He has already appeared in 3 games this season for the Bruins and has looked solid.

The list of injuries just continues to get bigger for the Boston Bruins.

Boston is set to face off against the Detroit Red Wings tonight with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

Can Michael Callahan hold down a regular spot while Henri Jokiharju recovers?
