The Boston Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron was disrespected by Daily FaceOff's Frank Seravalli today.

The New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche made a blockbuster deal during the NHL trade deadline. The Islanders would receive Calum Ritchie and a 1st-round pick for Brock Nelson, who'd be sent to the Avalanche as a rental.

The impact of the trade has yet to be felt, as Nelson is still playing on an Avalanche that is a playoff team. While Cal Ritchie has only played seven games in the NHL, all for the team that drafted him, the Avs.

The trade was lambasted by DailyFaceOff's Frank Seravalli and would disrespect former Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron in the process.

How so? He compared a completely green, NHL prospect in Cal Ritchie to the Captain. A player who has won the Selke Trophy six times and the Stanley Cup once.

It's pretty early in Ritchie's career, who hasn't been able to crack a spot in an NHL lineup yet.

Not to mention, while he's received some glowing reviews, the idea that Ritchie has the ceiling of Filip Forsberg to Nelson's Martin Erat might be a bit ridiculous.

“He looks like a top prospect, but he's quite inconsistent. Ritchie has long stretches where he doesn't make much of an impact, and plays too much on the perimeter.

The toolkit screams “good NHL player,” and I think eventually he will be that, but he may frustrate you along the way.” - Corey Pronman (from “2023 NHL Draft prospects: Bedard No. 1 on Corey Pronman's ranking, Fantilli and Michkov next”, The Athletic, 3/7/23)

As it stands now, he's been projected as a second-line center in the NHL, and OHL states tend to be deceptive.

In 47 games with the Oshawa Generals he's scored 70 points (15 goals, 55 assists).

Junior stats are skewed, considering how tough a league the NHL is. He could turn out to be a bust.

Selke Trophy winner? Has yet to be seen.
