The Boston Bruins have allegedly been misusing their top defenseman, as suggested in a recent report.

Boston Bruins insider Scott McLaughlin made a post on social media, via “X”, revealing a great argument regarding the organization misusing their most skilled defenseman, Hampus Lindholm.

Bruins insider reveals Boston has been misusing defenseman Hampus Lindholm

During the Boston Bruins' season opener last night, Wednesday, October 8, it was noted by Scott McLaughlin that Lindholm started 10 out of 11 shifts in the D-zone.

Take a look:

“Hampus Lindholm started 10 shifts in the D-zone last night and just one in the O-zone. Most DZ-heavy usage on the team.

Something to monitor. He can handle that role, and he won't complain, but as I've said before, I'm not sure it's how you get the absolute best out of him.”

Amongst all of Lindholm's teammates, he had the highest proportion of defensive zone starts, which evidently means head coach, Marco Sturm, relied on him heavily to handle the tough defensive situations Boston underwent.

However, McLaughlin suggests this heavy defensive role might not be the most ideal for Lindholm in the long run.

Despite this star defenseman being capable of handling it, it may not maximize his overall potential.

As Lindholm is now for his two-way play, and if the Bruins organization leans to heavily on his defensive responsibilities, he could ultimately be limited in terms of contributing offensively or playing to his full abilities.

With all said, the major concern here is that Lindholm can evidently excel in a defensive role, and overusing him in the D-zone might not be the more effective way to utilize his full skill set.

Do you think Boston Bruins head coach, Marco Sturm, is restricting Hampus Lindholm from shining within this Original Six roster?
