Elias Lindholm injury and Morgan Geekie family matter hit the Boston Bruins during their Rangers blowout.

Boston was already playing short-handed after Geekie left following the first period to attend to a family matter. The announcement came early in the second, and it instantly changed the mood in the building.

Then the Bruins got hit again later in the game, this time on the ice. The team announced Lindholm would not return after suffering a lower-body injury, turning a laugher into a “please just get to the room healthy” situation.

Boston's statement was short and to the point, and it said everything fans needed to know in the moment.

“Elias Lindholm (Lower body) will not return to today's game.”

The strange part is the Bruins were absolutely rolling when it happened. Boston went on to crush New York 10-2, with Pavel Zacha recording his first NHL hat trick and Marat Khusnutdinov scoring four goals in a wild afternoon.

Lindholm wasn't quiet before he left, either. He left the game after recording two assists.

Elias Lindholm injury turns a win into worry

As a Bruins fan, it's hard to enjoy ten goals when your top center limps down the tunnel.

Lindholm is the guy who keeps the middle of the ice from turning into chaos. He supports low on breakouts, takes hard matchups, and steadies the puck on the power play when shifts get frantic.

The early stat line is also a reminder of how important he's been this season. He's sitting at eight goals and 30 points in 35 games, and those are minutes Boston can't fake for long.

The only silver lining is what Marco Sturm said after the game, calling Lindholm's exit precautionary and saying it was “all good” with Geekie. He also labeled both as game-time decisions for Sunday, so at least the door is still open.
