An unexpected move was just announced by an NHL insider, claiming the Boston Bruins are putting a team member on waivers moments after announcing his contract extension.

This morning, GM Don Sweeney announced an unexpected signing of forward, Tyler Pitlick.

“#NHLBruins have signed forward Tyler Pitlick to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2024-25 season with an NHL cap hit of $775,000. Pitlick, 33, has appeared in 43 games with the Providence Bruins this season. He has also played in 420 career NHL games tallying 109 points.”

The Boston Bruins confirmed this transaction this morning in a statement:

BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, March 6, that the team has signed forward Tyler Pitlick to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2024-25 season with an NHL cap hit of $775,000.

Despite this official contract extension, it seems as though the organization quickly panicked and realized Pitlick may not be beneficial for the team in the long run.

Unexpectedly, hours after this transaction, NHL insider, Elliotte Friedman, released which players were put on waivers today, and that the 33-year old was one of them.

Needless to say, Tyler Pitlick has endured a chaotic day, going from a contract extension set in stone this morning, to being put on waivers by the afternoon.

This major move displays just how busy Boston Bruins' Don Sweeney has been and with the trade deadline looming, this could easily suggest another trade on the rise.

The trade deadline is going to be busy. Buckle up Boston Bruins fans!
