The Boston Bruins may officially make an offer to acquire a former first-round draft pick this offseason.

The Boston Bruins shockingly missed out on postseason contention during their last campaign, following eight straight appearances prior to the 2024/25 NHL season.

With that, the organization is obviously hoping to avoid missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the upcoming season, and although they have added some new faces to their roster this offseason, the Bruins stand to remain active prior to the 2025/26 NHL season.

And one specific area the organization struggled last campaign was to score goals, while they had three 20+ goal scorers on their roster, one of them was their former veteran and captain, Brad Marchand, who was traded midseason.

Since, the Bruins have not added a ton of scoring depth on their roster, and as a result, they could look to the trade market to find their missing piece.

The Boston Bruins may have found a top scorer to acquire this offseason

A recent report by Tristin McKinstry of Heavy.com revealed that, lucky enough, a young forward from the Columbus Blue Jackets has recently put in a trade request.

With that McKinstry announced a potential trade that could erupt between the Bruins and the Jackets.

The Boston Bruins emerge as a potential landing destination for the Columbus Blue Jackets' Yegor Chinakhov

Take a look:

“Boston Bruins acquire: Yegor Chinakhov

Columbus Blue Jackets acquire: John Beecher”

The news of Chinakhov's trade request came as a surprising to most, due to the fact that it was his agent who made the request public, and he cited Columbus' head coach, Dean Evason, as the main reason.

“(Chinakhov) is comfortable with this team. He's comfortable with this city,” agent Shumi Babaev told The Athletic back on July 18th. “But he's not comfortable with this coach. It's all about the coach.”

This issue began during the 2024/25 NHL season, Chinakhov began the year on the top line, however, but as the season wore down, this key-forward spent most of his time on the third line.

“Any team in the NHL would say Chinny is a top-six player,” Babaev said. “If (Evason) doesn't like him, then why not trade him. Why should you hold him? What's the reason? It's the best solution.”
