It may have just been confirmed to the media from recent speculation that the Boston Bruins are going to have a reunion with a former defenseman.

The Boston Bruins have undoubtedly undergone and busy offseason thus far, yet, recent rumors have surfaced, speculating that the organization is not quite done yet.

Boston Bruins linked to acquiring a former defenseman

In a recent post on social media, xia “X”, Bruins reporter, Andrew Fantucchio, revealed that Don Sweeney confirmed he was still inspecting the open market and has been in touch with some players.

Take a look:

“Don Sweeney said this morning he's still monitoring the free agent market and has been in touch with a few players about potentially coming in on PTOs, which begs the question, is there such a thing as too much internal competition? At some point, only so many players can battle for a handful of roster spots.”

Following Fantucchio's post, another reporter responded unveiling that one of the potential free agents could be the Boston Bruins' former defenseman:

“I feel like Gryz is one lol”

Matt Grzelcyk, who was drafted to the Boston Bruins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in the 3rd round (85th overall) and spent the majority of his career as a Bruin.

However, when his eight-season tenure with the Boston Bruins ended, he signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1, 2024.

Grzelcyk hit his career record within the time he spent in Pittsburgh, where he accumulated one goal, 39 assists, totalling at 40 points within 82 games.

Yet, now that this former Bruins contract is complete, he has become a free agent, and Fantucchio admitted he wouldn't be shocked if the Boston Bruins took him back this offseason.

“I wouldn't be shocked if they brought him back. But there's already at least three guys in the running for the 7th D spot (Harris, Callahan, and Soderstrom). I feel like that's more than enough.”

Do you think the Boston Bruins should re-acquire Matt Grzelcyk this offseason?
