Yesterday marked the date that the Boston Bruins ended up trading a goaltender to the Chicago Blackhawks 76 years ago.
Right now, the Chicago Blackhawks are currently deep into their rebuild, and at the NHL trade deadline they traded Seth Jones to the Florida Panthers to acquire a better goaltender.
The hope was for Knight to provide them more structure in goal, and help the Blackhawks become a more competitive team.
Knight ended up winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024 at just 24-years-old.
Although he didn't appear in any of the playoff games, he now has the experience and got to see what it takes to win the Stanley Cup.
With that being said, the Blackhawks made a similar move 76 years ago in hopes to bring a Stanley Cup to Chicago.
Blackhawks acquired a Stanley Cup winning goaltender from the Bruins
Back on September 8th, 1949, the Boston Bruins ended up trading a goaltender to the Chicago Blackhawks.
At the time, General Manager Bill Tobin ended up acquiring Frank Brimsek from the Bruins for cash.
76 years ago today ON THIS DAY in hockey history (September 8, 1949):
The @NHLBlackhawks acquire Frank "Mr. Zero" Brimsek from the @NHLBruins for cash
Brimsek played in the NHL for 12 years, and ended up winning two Stanley Cups, both with the Boston Bruins.
Appearing in 514 NHL games mainly for the Boston Bruins, and briefly for the Blackhawks, he finished his career with a 252-182-80 record.
He ended up winning his Stanley Cups with the Boston Bruins in 1939 and 1941.
Later on he would be traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in 1949 where he would end up retiring after the season concluded.
Do you think the Boston Bruins have a goaltender capable enough to bring them to another Stanley Cup?
