Brad Marchand got another tough update Monday, and Paul Maurice didn't sound like a coach expecting his former Bruins forward back anytime soon.
The fresh news came from Maurice through Jameson Olive's update on March 23.
The Panthers coach said Marchand has already completed his tests, sent them to the doctor, and is now doing a doctor tour.
Maurice added that Florida hopes to get a clearer rehab picture in the next 10 days.
That's the part that lands hard, because this no longer sounds like a short absence or a day-to-day issue.
For Marchand, that's bad news on its own.
For the Panthers, it's worse because this has dragged from a lingering lower-body problem into a longer medical process with no firm return date.
"Marchy has had his tests, sent them to the doctor, and now he's doing a doctor tour. We'll get an idea of how we're going to rehab that hopefully in the next 10 days."
He had already been ruled out for weeks earlier this month, with Maurice acknowledging surgery was a possibility. Monday's update didn't offer relief.
It reinforced that Florida is still waiting on answers.
That uncertainty matters because Marchand still gave the Panthers real top-six punch when he was in the lineup. He has 27 goals and 54 points in 52 games this season.
Florida can't afford more gray area
When a coach starts talking about a doctor tour and a 10-day window just to map out rehab, this is no longer about the next puck drop. It's about the bigger picture.
And for Marchand, that's a rough turn after arriving in Florida with so much attention around the move from Boston.
The former Bruins captain was supposed to bring edge, experience, and proven finishing to a club chasing another push.
Instead, his first Panthers stretch is being interrupted by medical uncertainty at the worst time. Florida doesn't just miss his offense.
It misses his agitation, his special-teams value, and the way he changes the temperature of a bench.
Until those doctors give Maurice something firmer, the story stays the same.
Brad Marchand remains out, and the update Monday made it feel like the wait could get longer before it gets better.
Will Brad Marchand play again this season for the Panthers?
