Head coach Marco Sturm has the Boston Bruins rolling, but top prospect James Hagens is proving the franchise's future is even brighter.

The varsity squad had Friday night off at TD Garden. Just down the road on Commonwealth Avenue, the next wave of Boston talent went to work.

Seven different Bruins draft picks laced them up for the historic 301st meeting between Boston College and Boston University. And the Terriers took down the tenth-ranked Eagles by a score of 3-1.

Even with the tough loss, the Bruins front office had plenty to smile about regarding their deep collegiate pipeline.

Dean Letourneau buried BC's only goal of the night to keep things interesting.

Hagens sparked the crisp passing sequence that allowed Letourneau to rifle the puck home from the high slot.

A Rapid Rebuild

These two draft-pick standouts have combined for 39 goals this season at BC. Letourneau went from scoring no goals as a freshman to finding the back of the net 19 times already as a sophomore.

That specific kind of development is exactly what the Bruins needed. The front office traded away massive amounts of draft capital during their previous playoff contention years.

The prospect pool was essentially empty just a short time ago. Now the 2025-26 Bruins are flying way ahead of schedule.

They've been an outstanding 13-2-3 since December 31 and are playing with absolute confidence. They are defying all expectations on NHL ice, while the kids dominate the college ranks.

Young additions like Fraser Minten, Jonathan Aspirot, and Marat Khusnutdinov have already established themselves on the current roster.

Hagens remains the ultimate prize of last year's aggressive roster teardown. Taken seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, he faced immense pressure to produce right away.

Shifting from center to the wing this year unlocked a totally new level to his transition game. His offensive output is staggering right now.

Hagens currently sits at 39 points through 29 games this season. Racking up 26 points over his last 16 matchups shows he is completely dialed in and ready for the Show.

Bruins fans have every right to be excited about the product on the ice and the elite talent waiting in the wings.
