Jack Studley just reported that Charlie McAvoy, who started the Bruins power play, has gone to the room against the Panthers.
The Bruins haven't given an update yet, and McAvoy's status for the rest of the game is unknown. Nothing in the report says he's hurt, so there's no reason to assume it. The game is deep in the second period.
Studley noted that McAvoy was on the ice to begin the Bruins power play before he left for the room.
That power play came out of a scrum between the benches. Studley reported that Anton Lundell tackled McAvoy, the play was whistled dead and Lundell went to the box for two minutes for roughing.
BR_OpenIce posted that the two were jawing at each other before Lundell popped him.
It was the second heated moment involving McAvoy in the period. Earlier in the second, Studley noted that Sam Reinhart and McAvoy each drew two minutes for roughing, and both teams skated 4-on-4.
What the Bruins would lose without McAvoy
McAvoy has 1 goal and 7 assists in 11 games this season, and he carries a +9 rating. He's been a steady presence for a team that has been winning.
Frederic Brunet has played 11 games with 5 points, a 23-year-old the Bruins drafted in the fifth round in 2022. It has been a chippy afternoon, with fights involving Nikita Zadorov and Mark Kastelic in the first period.
If McAvoy doesn't return, the man advantage Lundell handed the Bruins would be an awful price. Boston is 12-4-1 and first in the Atlantic Division, and the back end is not where it can afford a hole.
It would also land on a team that's already thin up front, with James Hagens landing on injured reserve before today's game. Hagens had 12 points in 17 games.
We will update this story when the Bruins give word on McAvoy. Boston's next game after this one is Thursday against Montreal.
