Vancouver traded Kiefer Sherwood to San Jose for second-round picks in 2026 and 2027, plus defenseman Cole Clayton.

Both teams announced it, and the Sharks framed it as a direct add for their forward group.

From the Bruins' angle it's tough, Sherwood was another play Boston liked but would not pay for.

Sherwood was one of the cleaner fits for what this roster still needs, pace, pressure, and goals outside the top line.

Sherwood is 30 and a pending unrestricted free agent. He has 17 goals in 44 games this season. Sportsnet also noted he has been out since Jan. 10 with an undisclosed injury, which adds risk for any buyer.

The contract part is what made him tempting. Sherwood carries a $1.5 million cap hit on a two-year, $3 million deal, and it expires at the end of 2025-26.

Boston Bruins miss on Kiefer Sherwood again

As a Bruins fan, you can feel the sigh, because this was the exact kind of playoff-style winger you picture in black and gold.

Sherwood plays fast and mean, and the numbers back up the identity. He set the NHL single-season hits record last year with 462, and he was still piling them up again this season.

Boston has stayed in the fight anyway, sitting at 27-19-2 with 56 points entering Monday.

Sherwood also has a real scoring touch for a “depth” guy, and Sportsnet previously pegged Boston as a logical landing spot.

The Bruins want more consistent offense behind their stars, and Sherwood's blend checked a lot of boxes.

It personally feels like a big miss for the Bruins, but there are going to be other players Sweeney can target for hopefully a cheaper price.
