Bruins fans got a jarring reminder this weekend of how fragile things can be. The video of David Pastrnak's injury against the New York Islanders was posted online, and what seemed at first like a minor tweak now looks far more serious.
On Wednesday he was skating up the ice after a shift in his own zone, then slowly limped off - you can clearly see him grimace in pain as he headed to the bench.
Pastrnak has missed the last two games for the Boston Bruins. Boston announced he was day-to-day with what they called an “undisclosed injury.”
In the video, you can see Pastrnak in discomfort at two separate times.
The fact he also sat out Friday against the New York Rangers and Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings may indicate that it's more serious.
Video of David Pastrnak's injury has been released
It's especially worrying given Pastrnak's status going into the season. He began 2025-26 after a summer managing knee tendinitis, and the team has been cautious about loading him too early.
Here is a look at the video, and I wonder if it has anything to do with his tendinitis or if it's something entirely different.
Went in and rewatched final shift from Wednesday. Here's your David Pastrnak injury:
That prior vulnerability may have left him more fragile than usual. Watching him exit slowly instead of skating off shows this could be more serious than a simple tweak - maybe a pull or strain that won't heal overnight.
Pastrnak has been the Bruins' engine - and seeing him struggle to even skate out sends a clear signal that the team might be in for more than a short absence.
Losing Pastrnak to a long-term injury would not be ideal for the Bruins, who are trying to make it back to the NHL playoffs after missing them last year.
Do you think David Pastrnak's injury will keep him out of the lineup long-term?
