Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, admits a signing may be underway in Boston and speculations suggest that it could be announced soon.
Whilst the Boston Bruins continue to undergo their ongoing re-tool, that began following their extremely busy trade deadline, the organization finds itself still faced with immense challenges.
Boston Bruins are open to signing free agents
This is due to the fact that some area's in the organization's roster are still lacking, however, at the Boston Bruins Foundation Gold Outing, Bruins general manager, Don Sweeney, made his perspective clear that every single player needs to fight and earn their spot on the roster.
“I think it's really important for each and every player to understand there are very few spots that are just going to be taken," Sweeney said. "You know, you've got the incumbent players that feel comfortable in what they've done in the National Hockey League, that's obvious, but the rest of the guys really need to understand there's going to be a competition for ice time and for roster spots.”
Sweeney then continued fueling that argument by asking if there is any potential for the Boston Bruins to sign any free agents to Professional Tryout Agreements (PTOs).
“We're monitoring that market right now," Sweeney said. "We're perfectly fine, but we have spoken to some players that we feel would provide even more competition amongst our group.”
While at this time it is uncertain what Don Sweeney's intentions are regarding this Original Six franchise, but it seems as though he will not be willing to add any players on his roster that aren't deserving.
Fans are hopeful he adds more talent to the roster this offseason.
